It is with unbridled excitement that the Cedartown-Polk County Humane Society announces that we finally have a “home away from home” to serve Cedartown and Polk County.
The property located at 3416 Rockmart Highway in Cedartown has been generously donated to establish a refuge for neglected and abused animals. The 4.7 acres include a house, a Quonset-style structure, two other outbuildings which are being rehabilitated to house and provide a variety of other services to animals in need.
The sadness of a family makes the dream of a community come true
In January 2021, Kerry Hall, originally from Cedartown, passed away after a short battle with cancer. Kerry loved animals… all kinds of animals… dogs, cats, birds and even turtles, and over the course of her life she has welcomed and cared for dozens of animals on her property between Cedartown and Rockmart.
Upon her death, her family could think of no better way to honor her memory than to donate her home and outbuildings to become a permanent and official shelter without killing and a center of adoption for the creatures they were born with. loved so dearly.
The Hall family turned their loss into a living memorial that fulfills the dream of the Cedartown-Polk County Humane Society and the hundreds of volunteers who have supported the organization since its inception in 2014.
How you can help
With seed capital from a private foundation, the property is currently being cleaned up and renovated to become its major job.
But there is always a need for more funding … especially for the daily operating costs that will accompany the services that will soon be provided at the shelter.
And there will be an increased need for volunteers to help transform, feed, clean, exercise and love the animals that end up at the shelter.
