Central Dakota Humane Society salutes local volunteers
April is National Volunteer Month. The Central Dakota Humane Society is just one of many organizations in the region that rely heavily on the donation of their time.
They tell us that they spent the last week showing their volunteers how much they appreciate them.
“Our volunteers do everything for us, from helping us socialize the animals, to landscaping projects. They help us with the mailings. They help us with computer work. It’s amazing that people are so generous and spend time helping us with our mission of caring for little wavy kitties like this, ”Mandy Schaaf, Volunteer and Special Events Coordinator.
We met a volunteer who has been working for the humanitarian society for six months.
She tells us that although she is busy with extracurricular activities, it is a very rewarding experience.
“If that’s it, or just hanging out at home and watching TV, I’d rather do that.” Just prioritizing what I want to do and what makes me happy, being here with the dogs. You get so happy and everything. It’s just my peace. I can find real clarity and relax when I walk away from school, ”said volunteer Brooke Burgard.
The Central Dakota Humane Society is always looking for volunteers. They also tell us that they will be hosting their first in-person event since the pandemic began later this summer.
