Day of Giving: a community effort to help animals in need

Every June, the San Diego Humane Society celebrates its month-long Day of Giving campaign. This annual fundraising movement, which culminates with a day of celebration on June 24, is designed to unite the local community to support animals in need – and the rescue work of the San Diego Humane Society.

What makes Day of Giving special is its reach. Hundreds of organization staff and volunteers – from animal care, adoptions, veterinary medicine, humane law enforcement, wildlife rehabilitation and more – are getting involved to share their passion for animals and raise essential funds to support the mission of the San Diego Humane Society. The same goes for local animal-loving businesses, who sign up as community partners and participate in Giving Day by donating a percentage of their profits.

On June 24, the San Diego Humane Society will be posting a variety of social media content, including animal success stories, behind-the-scenes tours and special donation opportunities to mark Giving Day and how the community can help. ‘involve. And donations made to Day of Giving are doubled, up to $ 200,000, thanks to generous matching funds provided by donors to the San Diego Humane Society.

And what a difference it makes: Every year, nearly 50,000 pets and wildlife rely on the San Diego Humane Society for help, along with tens of thousands of pet owners. Providing animals with shelter, veterinary care, behavioral training, emergency rescue, etc. requires significant resources. As a private, not-for-profit organization, philanthropy continues to be central to the San Diego Humane Society’s ability to maintain its commitment to the “Stay Zero” euthanasia of healthy, treatable shelter animals.

“We can’t do everything we do without the support of our community,” says Daugherty. “The donations we receive through Day of Giving will be critical to our ability to care for every animal that needs us. No amount is too small, and it all contributes to our rescue work. “
