Freezing Greyhound loves life after getting a coat to go out in the snow
A doggy who found the snow a bit too cold has gone viral with a video showing her joy at being wrapped in a coat so she can play outside.
The owner of Honey the Iggy shares her photogenic dog’s escapades on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, describing the Italian Greyhound as a “model”.
Honey lives in Oslo, the capital of Norway, where winter temperatures can drop to 40 degrees below zero. Which means the snow can be a bit frosty on her beans when she takes her daily walk.
Fortunately, her owner assures that she is well equipped for the climate, with a wardrobe full of chic but warm outfits.
“Honey is so used to wearing clothes since we live in Norway. It snows half the year,” her owner revealed.
The Visit Norway website states that the country’s winter weather can be variable. “Along the coast, temperatures generally stay around zero degrees Celsius. [32 degrees Fahrenheit]“, he explains.
“Inland, temperatures are generally lower and can reach 10 to 20 degrees below zero Celsius. [14 degrees to minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit]. A few places can even experience extremely freezing temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius [minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit]!”
A clip shared to the @honeytheiggy TikTok account on Tuesday showed Honey’s reactions to snow, starting with the onscreen caption: “How Honey reacts to going out with no clothes on vs with clothes on.”
First, her landlord opens the door, revealing a snowy yard, and Honey shyly steps out, before seemingly deciding it’s too cold and heading back into the warm living room.
The landlady then holds up an attractive coat, which she dresses Honey in before opening the door again. This time, the greyhound happily jumps out and starts running through the snow.
The video, which has been viewed 1 million times and can be seen here, is captioned: “She’s sensitive.”
Hundreds of TikTokers commented on Honey’s adorable reactions, with Amelie_dengg writing, “This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Samantha Bates wrote: “Want to hang out, humans made it possible, happy pup.”
Denise felt, “Smarter than most kids.”
Karen joked, “Thank goodness for the clothes!”
Bartclan observed, “Honey is no fool!”
Hay added, “Oh that’s so funny and peek outside and go out for a minute and say no, I hate going out without a coat.”
In response to numerous questions from TikTokers, its owner added in the comments, “The coat is from Whitehound Store on Instagram so everyone is asking for it.”
But it turned out that Honey’s boots were custom tailoring, as her owner shared a tutorial for anyone who wants to make their own.
In her Instagram Stories, she said, “I made Honey’s boots myself. All the boots I bought for her would do well while walking, but come off while running…”
She shared a free design pattern, as well as a video tutorial, explaining that you need scraps of fabric, Velcro, and rubber bands.
According to ASPCA Pet Insurance, older dogs and puppies, as well as those with medical conditions, may be more sensitive to the cold.
He said: “Your dog’s ability to tolerate the cold can depend on a number of factors including breed, age, size and health.
“For example, larger breeds with thicker coats and protective undercoats, such as Akitas and huskies, are naturally better equipped to handle low temperatures.
“Smaller, short-haired breeds, like Boston terriers or Chihuahuas, are more likely to shiver and shiver at the first sign of a chill.
“A good rule of thumb is if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your dog.”
Newsweek contacted the owner of Honey for further comment.
