Madison Avenue boutique opens in Brookwood Mall in Topeka
A new women’s clothing store opened on Saturday in Topeka’s Brookwood Mall.
Named in honor of owner Madison Schmidtlein, Madison Avenue Boutique offers a range of women’s clothing and accessories, as well as candles, greeting cards, and a few other bric-a-brac.
Schmidtlein said he opened the store, 2831 SW 29th St., because of his passion for fashion.
“I always wanted to be a model when I was younger,” she said.
Her mother, Kelly Schuster, owns The Linen Tree a few doors down, and Schmidtlein gained retail experience working for her.
Today, she combines this experience with her long-standing passion by becoming an entrepreneur at the age of 24.
“It’s a dream of mine,” Schmidtlein said.
Her favorite part of owning the store is choosing the clothes and accessories that she sells to customers.
“It feels good,” she said.
Schmidtlein hosted a smooth opening with friends and family on Friday night and saw a steady stream of customers on Saturday after the opening to the public.
Although she welcomes people of all ages, she especially hopes to attract women in their late teens and those in their twenties and thirties.
“Topeka just doesn’t have a lot of clothing options so I wanted to do something about it,” Schmidtlein said.
She added that it’s good to keep people buying locally.
“I’ve always been the type to support locals just because my mom is a local business (owner),” Schmidtlein said. “I’ve seen her struggle through the pandemic and everything, and a lot of people have come forward for that and supported her. I think once I have a good customer base, I will have a lot of people who carry on. to support me. “
The Madison Avenue boutique is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Schmidtlein said she also hopes to build a website soon. For now, the store’s news and updates are available on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
