Pamplin Media Group – First holiday auction a success for Humane Society

Bidders have brought in $ 16,000 and there are still a few days left to meet the challenge of human society.

Three Rivers Humane Society took a chance at an online auction this holiday season. It paid off. Businesses and individuals gave attractive gifts, and people responded with generous donations. The goal of the shelter was to raise $ 20,000, and bidders paid out $ 16,000. “The support from the community has been incredible,” says Erin Foote Morgan, director of development for the shelter. The organization needs more help. Prices have increased significantly for the refuge this year. Morgan says rising costs for labor, materials and drugs increased their expenses by $ 100,000. In turn, a budget of $ 750,000 climbed to $ 850,000. Add to that the influx of animals. “We get lots of litters of kittens and puppies. Once this fall we had 47 puppies in addition to 50 dogs.” Bright Wood also provided $ 3,000 in matching funds to inspire more donations. If enough donations arrive by the end of the year, the matching challenge could add an additional $ 6,000 to the shelter’s income. “COVID has been really tough for us,” Foote Morgan says. the website www.threeriverhs.org or mail checks to 1694 Southeast McTaggart Road, Madras, OR 97741.
