Tail-a-thon raises over $ 41,000 for Terre Haute Humane Society
HIGH EARTH, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – On Thursday, the community donated $ 41,024 to the Terre Haute Humane Society for their annual Tail-a-Thon event.
Shelter staff say numbers may rise further, they will keep donation links open for up to a week. It was their goal to beat last year’s total of over $ 42,000.
The Wabash Valley Community Foundation matched up to $ 10,000 of what was donated Thursday.
Maggie Wheeler of the company says staff were surprised at how much money was raised, but it’s thanks to a generous and supportive community.
“It’s the community, it’s our staff, who make the calls and contact businesses, it’s our volunteers who come, phone and greet the public. It might sound cliché to say it’s a team effort, but it is, ”said Wheeler.
Wheeler told WTWO News that expenses to run the humanitarian company can typically cost up to $ 50,000, including salaries and all animal needs.
“I know people are suffering with COVID right now, so $ 100 is a lot of money for people right now, so I’m as grateful for a $ 2000 donation as I am for a $ 100 donation. because I understand the impact the $ 100 has on people. monthly budget now. “
Several businesses in the community donated $ 2,000 and many people in the community donated $ 100.
WTWO will provide an update once fundraising is complete.
